Benefits Of Renting A Portable Storage Unit

Posted by on May 4, 2016 in Uncategorized |

If you’re thinking about storing some of your possessions that you don’t often use but don’t yet wish to discard, a self-storage facility is a logical choice. With units of a variety of different sizes, you’ll have no trouble getting space to suit your storage needs. However, if there isn’t a self-storage business conveniently located to you, you don’t need to think about traveling to a far-away facility. Instead, think about renting a portable storage unit and having it delivered to your home. The obvious benefit of this type of storage is that your items are just a few steps outside your front door, but there are other advantages to portable storage units as well. Ideal If You’re Thinking About Moving If a move is in your near future, portable storage arguably makes the most sense. If you have items stored at a storage facility, you’ll need to take your rented moving truck to the facility, unload the unit and then transport your possessions to your new home. With portable storage, the process is much simpler. Because your items are already stored on your property, you’ll simply need to arrange for the delivery truck to pick up your bin and drive it to your new home. You don’t have to worry about being there for the arrival, either; because the bin is securely locked, your possessions will stay safe in the new location before your arrival. Highly Secure Many homeowners end up storing some of their possessions in their garage or in a backyard shed, but these locations aren’t overly secure. A thief could easily break a window in the garage or shed and gain access to your items, but getting into a portable storage unit is exceedingly difficult. These units are securely locked with heavy-duty locking hardware and contain no windows, which makes unwanted access unlikely. Flexible Rental Periods Portable storage units provide an ideal storage solution because you can keep them for as little or as long as you desire. If you’re tackling a major renovation project and want some of your furniture out of the way to avoid damage, you can have a storage container delivered and load it up for just a week if that’s all you need. Conversely, if your home is short on storage space, you can fill up your storage container and essentially use it as an extension of your home’s storage option for months or even years on end. For more information, contact a local storage unit rental company or check it out on their...

Three Maintenance Tips For Your Vacuum Cleaner

Posted by on Apr 18, 2016 in Uncategorized |

Your vacuum is an essential tool for helping to keep your house clean. However, these devices can be rather expensive, and they may be subjected to intense wear and tear. Yet, there are many people that may make mistakes when it comes to caring for their vacuum cleaners. If you have rarely thought about the maintenance needs of your vacuum, you should make sure to use the following three tips to help you avoid some performance compromising oversights. Avoid Use A Vacuum With A Full Bag Or Canister Changing the bag to your vacuum or emptying the bagless canister may seem like an inconvenient task. While it may seem easier to delay changing the bag or emptying the canister, it can be essential for preventing the unit from overheating. If the bag or canister is excessively full, air may not be able to circulate, which can put increased pressure on the motor. Eventually, the motor will burn out due to this problem, which will require you to replace the vacuum. To avoid this problem, you should always empty bagless canisters or the bag before each use of the vacuum. By removing the front panel and gently squeezing the bag, you will be able to determine if it is too full. Clean The Exterior Vents In addition to making sure the vacuum is not full, you will also need to regularly clean the exterior vents. These vents are essential for allowing air to flow into the vacuum, but they can become clogged with dust and dirt. To avoid allowing this issue to damage your vacuum’s motor, you should make sure dust the exterior of your vacuum prior to using it. Have The Vacuum Professionally Serviced While making sure that the vacuum is not full and that the exterior vents are clear are important steps in caring for the vacuum, the internal motor will also need maintenance. Over the course of time, this motor can start to develop alignment or lubrication issues. If these issues are not addressed, they will cause the vacuum to lose effectiveness as well as being more prone to malfunction. Fortunately, you can hire a Vacuum Cleaner Services to provide this type of servicing. When these professionals are servicing your vacuum, they will thoroughly dismantle it so that they can remove any dirt or dust on the interior. After it has been properly cleaned, the internal belts will be replaced, and additional lubrication will be added. By having this work done at least once every few years, you will be better able to ensure that your vacuum lasts for as long as...

How To Choose The Right Pallet And Clean It Before Use

Posted by on Apr 6, 2016 in Uncategorized |

You may have seen old pallet wood being repurposed and used as decor, but may not know how to do this yourself. You can make modern decor yourself using old pallets. Create a wooden storage crate, a wall hanging or even furniture (if you’re a little more handy) using old pallets. See below for some tips on how to choose the right pallet and how to clean the pallet before use. Get The Right Pallets No two pallets are the same. Some pallets may have been used to carry chemicals or had been treated with chemicals and pesticides, which may not be the type of pallets you want around your home. There are codes located on the pallets to tell you how they were treated. These codes are: DB. This means the pallet has been debarked, has not been treated and is safe to use. HT. HT means heat treated, has not been treated with chemicals and is also safe for use. KD. This type of pallet has been kiln dried, has not been treated and is safe for use. EPAL. This stands for the European Pallet Association Logo, it is heat treated, not treated with chemicals and safe for use. MB. MB stands for Methyl Bromide, which is toxic and not safe for use. Painted Or Colored Pallets. This type of pallet is not safe for use and is highly toxic. Be sure to look for these codes on pallets before handling to ensure they are not toxic. If you cannot find any codes on the pallet, do not use it – you’re better safe than sorry. Clean And Sanitize Pallets are used for a number of things, they could have sat in a clean trailer or store for some time, or they could have been stored outside with bugs and rodents crawling through and making their homes inside the wood. Be sure to clean and sanitize your pallet before using it. See the steps below. Hose down your pallet wood using a garden hose. This will help remove loose dirt and any bugs inside. Allow the wood to dry. Next, use a sanding block to sand down the wood pieces. This will help remove slivers and prevent splinters when handling, and will help when you want to dust the pieces of wood later on. Using a soft scrub brush and hot soapy water, scrub the wood clean. This helps give your wood a deeper clean.  Finally, to help sanitize the wood, use a hand-held steam cleaner and steam the wood on all sides. Allow the wood to dry before upcycling it into something else. You can do a lot with used pallets by Olde Tyme Pallets. Be sure to use the right type of pallet to ensure it is not toxic and clean and sanitize it thoroughly before...

3 Signs That Your Septic Tank Needs To Be Pumped

Posted by on Mar 30, 2016 in Uncategorized |

Running off a septic system means you have a tank that fills with your household waste water. Eventually, this tank will fill up and require draining and cleaning. How often this is necessary depends on several factors, including the amount of people in your home, how much waste water you create, and the quality of the waste water. The following signs can help you determine when it is time for a clean out. Sign #1: Sluggish Drains As the tank approaches capacity, the drains in your home may become sluggish. Does your washer seem to be draining more slowly, or is your toilet becoming more prone to backing up? If so, it is time to schedule a pumping and clean out visit. Sign #2: Drain Field Issues Your drain field should be relatively odor-free and it shouldn’t be swampy. If you begin to notice a foul odor from the area of the tank or drain field, or if you see standing water, your tank is overflowing and it needs to be pumped as soon as possible. A poorly functioning drain field can lead to health issues and it can even taint the local ground water supplies. Sign #3: Dipstick Measurements A septic dipstick can be a handy device to have on hand – your septic servicing company can help you create one. These sticks are generally made of PVC pipe that is long enough to reach the bottom of the tank. The stick will be marked with the height where your tank’s outlet hole is located. You can simply open the cover to the tank, insert the stick, and pull it out. As long as the black sludge on the stick is about a foot below the outlet marking, your tank is not yet full enough to pump. These three symptoms are a sure way to know when to pump out your tank, but keep in mind that they may also indicate a larger problem. For example, if water is draining slowly, your system could be clogged with sludge to the point that simply pumping it out is no longer sufficient. You may need to actually have the tank fully scraped and cleaned. The septic company will only leave a small amount of sludge in the tank after this process, which will be used to seed the tank with the beneficial bacteria necessary for a healthy septic system. For more help, contact a septic company in your area such as septic tank cleaning by Capital Septic...

Need To Replace Your Computer? Here’s How You Can Minimize Expenses

Posted by on Mar 14, 2016 in Uncategorized |

Whether your old PC does not work any longer or you’re simply ready for a more powerful performer, replacing your computer can be an exciting yet expensive process when all is said and done. Luckily, you can minimize the expense of replacing your computer by implementing the following tips and techniques: Get Your Old One Repaired The best way to save some money on replacing your computer is to get the old one repaired so that you can sell it and use the proceeds towards the purchase of a new computer. You may be able to sell it to another private party once it’s fixed up, and if you can’t find a buyer you should be able to sell it at a pawn shop or computer store in your local area. Keep in mind that your computer might be out of commission for a few days while it is being worked on.  So if you need regular PC access, consider buying a new computer before you get the old one fixed. You can sell the fixed one afterward and recuperate some of the money you invested in the new computer. Sell Parts that are Still Working If your old computer cannot be fixed enough to be sold as a complete unit, you may be able to still make some money off of it by selling the parts that are still working on and within it such as: The Screen The Hard Drive The Graphics Card The Motherboard The Keyboard Any parts that still work well and that can be used to fix another computer or as part of a do-it-yourself project should be worth some money that you can use toward the purchase of your new computer. Buy Refurbished if Possible Another effective way to keep your new computer purchase costs low is to buy refurbished if possible. Refurbished PCs are fine tuned to work like new again before being put on the market, with the exception of a small aesthetic blemish that might be found here and there. You’ll find that many refurbished computers come with warranties to ensure that your investment remains cost effective – many of them are even eligible for extended warranties that will cover repair costs during the first couple years of ownership. Not only will buying refurbished save you some money on upfront costs, but you can feel good about leaving a small carbon footprint associated with your purchase too. With the help of these tips and tricks, you should find that replacing your old computer is an enjoyable experience that ends up being both cost effective and convenient in the long run.  For computer repair, contact a business such as Datapath Support Group...

Car Won’t Fit In Your Garage: 4 Storage Ideas To Help You Clear Up Some Space

Posted by on Mar 6, 2016 in Uncategorized |

If you’re tired of parking your car in the driveway instead of your garage, it might be time to think about decluttering. Whether you’re trying to find a place for large items, or those small things that just get in the way, you’ll need alternative storage ideas. Here are four easy storage ideas that will help you take your garage back. Rent a Storage Unit Take a look around your garage. There are probably a lot of things that don’t need to be stored at home. Things like seasonal decorations and seasonal hobby equipment such as snow skis or surfboards can be stored safely in a self-storage unit. Most self-storage facilities are protected with locking gates and 24 hour surveillance, which means your property will be well-protected while you have it in storage. Check with places like Millstream Self Storage for unit options. Use PVC Pipe If you have a box full of random extension cords, you’re probably wondering what to do with them. That’s where small pieces of PVC pipe comes in handy. For this project you’ll need several feet of 2-inch diameter PVC pipe and a small handsaw. Cut your PVC pipe into 6-inch long segments. Wind your small extension cords up and place them inside the PVC pipe segments. The next time you need an extension cord, it will be stored neatly away inside your PVC holders. For larger extension cords, you can use 6-inch diameter PVC pipe instead. Create Wood Shelves Those exposed 2×4 beams in your garage ceiling are just waiting to be used as additional storage space. All you’ll need are several 2×6 boards to convert the beams to storage shelves. Simply lay the 2×6 boards lengthwise across the exposed cross-ties. Once they’re in place, secure them with a few 4-inch nails or wood screws.  Your rafters are now ready to be used as storage space.   Find Creative Uses for Over-the-Door Shoe Organizers Do you have small hand tools or gardening tools that you don’t know what to do with now that you’re organizing your garage? Over-the-door shoe organizers are the perfect way to store those hard-to-place items. Each of the separate compartments can be used for storing items such as drill bits, hammers, and even small power tools such as drills or electric sanders. If you label each compartment, you’ll know exactly where your equipment goes. Parking your car in the garage can be tough when you’re using the garage as a storage unit. The ideas provided here will help you clear the clutter so you can park your car in the garage...

Bookkeeping: Why A Proactive Approach Is Key And How To Make It Easier

Posted by on Mar 2, 2016 in Uncategorized |

Bookkeeping is not a business owner’s most favorite task. However, it is one that is necessary to running a successful business. This article will explain a few reasons why a proactive, hands-on approach to accounting is essential and three steps to make things a bit easier on you. 5 Reasons You Need to Be Proactive with Your Bookkeeping To Make Personal Money – Your business income decides how much personal money you get. To Better Manage Your Business – You cannot run and manage your business if you are unable to see where you are making money and where you’re losing it. By knowing where you stand at all times financially, you are able to make better overall management decisions. To Pay the Bills – In order to make money, you must first spend money. In order to keep your business up and running, you’ll need to pay your bills — utilities, equipment, supplies, training, employees, etc. To Pay the Taxes – Though you may be new to the business world, it doesn’t mean that you’re exempt from paying taxes. It may not be an expense that you look forward to, but it is one that is 100 percent necessary. By managing your money efficiently throughout the entire year, it sure makes the tax time a lot easier. To Reduce Stress – While it is true that a proactive approach with your bookkeeping is not going to remove all of your stress, it will alleviate some of it. This is because you will have a better handle on your business money, which makes that one less (big) thing to worry about on a daily basis. 3 Steps to Simplifying Your Bookkeeping Process Keep All Receipts – In order to be successful with your bookkeeping, it is an absolute must that you have detailed summaries of any income and all expenses. This is why you need to keep all receipts, invoices, etc. You can either keep the hard copy in a filing cabinet, separated by the month and in numerical order by the date, or you can scan each item and store them on your business computer. If you opt for the alternative, make sure to have a back-up in the cloud or hold on to the hard copies. Make Use of a Ledger – A ledger is going to provide you the ability to summarize all income, expenses, etc. Anything you track financially can be summarized on a ledger. This is a good way to see how the business as a whole is doing, from the amount of money that’s coming in and the amount that’s going out. In order for a ledger to work effectively, you must transfer receipts and invoices regularly to the ledger. This is known as posting. The frequency of your posting can be up to you and can be on a daily, weekly or even monthly basis. Generate Basic Financial Reports – Using the aforementioned summaries from your ledger, you can then generate specific reports that give you a clearer idea of your business finances. Ultimately, the most important reports you will want to produce include a balance sheet, profit/loss forecast and a cash flow analysis.   If you need professional assistance, businesses accountants are...

Simple Ways To Save Money

Posted by on Feb 10, 2016 in Uncategorized |

It’s important to have some sort of savings to fall back on when unexpected financial issues occur. However, many people have trouble saving money. Fortunately, you don’t need to have an elaborate savings plan to get started. There are several simple things that you can do in order to start saving money.  Save Your Change Saving your change is one of the easiest ways to start saving money. After all, every little bit adds up, and you might be surprised at how much money you can save just by saving your loose change. Simply place your loose change in a jar at the end of each day. Then, when the jar is full, take your change to a local bank or store that has a coin counter (such as those provided by Donovan Sales Ltd) to turn your change into paper bills. Coin counters automatically count your change quickly. Once you have a total, the machine prints a receipt that you take to the cashier to redeem for cash. Because you are using your coins to start a small savings, make sure you put the money that you receive in a savings account at your bank to avoid spending it. Wait Before Buying Make a rule to wait a few days before you purchase any items over a specific amount to avoid impulse shopping. Sticking to your waiting rule gives you time to reconsider your purchases. By the time your waiting period has lapsed, you might have decided that you don’t need the item that you wanted to purchase as much as you originally thought. Automate Your Savings If you get paid via direct deposit, there’s a good chance you may be able to automate your savings. Talk to your employer and/or your bank to see if it’s possible to split up your direct deposit amount. If so, split your paycheck so that a specific amount goes directly into a savings account. Because the money is automatically placed into an account that you don’t normally use to make purchases, you’re less likely to spend that money. Increase Your Savings Slowly The key to saving money is being consistent. Unfortunately, many people fail because they try to start a savings plan that requires them to save a significant amount of money right from the start. So, instead of making a massive change, start by saving small sums of money each week. Then, gradually increase the amount that you set aside weekly until you’re able to reach your savings goal each week without overwhelming yourself.  In order to be successful at saving money, you need to replace bad financial habits with good ones. By changing your spending habits and mastering small savings habits each week, it’s easy to build up a decent savings...

The Do’s And Don’ts Of Keeping Your Dentures Sparkling Clean

Posted by on Feb 9, 2016 in Uncategorized |

Those prosthetic teeth may not be prone to decay or deterioration like natural teeth, but they can get pretty dirty and stained–evened if you brush them. When you still have your natural teeth, a less-than-sparkly smile will likely lead you to the dentist for a proper cleaning, but when you have dentures, you will take matters into your own hands to get your teeth looking as good as new. There are a few do’s and don’ts that you should keep in mind about deep cleaning your dentures to recover that all-new look that they once had.  Do soak your dentures overnight to loosen difficult stains. Soaking your dentures in over-the-counter denture cleanser for several hours or overnight can help to break up difficult-to-remove stains, making the stains easier to brush away. It is a good idea to soak your dentures at least a few times a month to keep them looking their best.   Don’t soak dentures in hot or boiling water. Do not be tempted to use hot or boiling water to try to get your dentures clean even though you may assume that hot water must work better to release tough stains. Water that is too hot or boiling can actually change the shape of the acrylic plastic fitted mouth piece, which may mean your dentures will not fit as well as they should.  Do use a good soft-bristled toothbrush to break up stains and dirt. A soft-bristled brush is all you need when it comes to scrubbing stains from your dentures. The soft bristles will gently polish away discoloration and debris that may be making your dentures appear dirty without causing any damage.  Don’t use an abrasive scrub brush or any type of scouring material.  Never use anything abrasive on your dentures to try to scrub stains away. Dense and harsh materials, such as a stiff scrub brush or scouring pad, can actually scratch away the protective surface of the teeth, leaving tiny discrepancies in the surface area that will trap dirt and food particles.  Do brush your dentures several times a day. Just like your real teeth, the closer the attention is that you pay to keeping them clean after meals, the easier your dentures will be to keep clean. So brush your dentures several times, especially after meals.  Do not use whitening products on your dentures.  Teeth whitening products contain chemical compounds that are designed to be used on natural teeth and some of these can be damaging to the enamel of even your real teeth. Using teeth whitening products not specifically designed for dentures could damage the materials, causing discoloration, spotting, or even changes in shape and appearance.  For more information, contact offices like Kamloops Denture & Implant Centre Ltd. denture...
